Series tip: Luther

It's time for another series tip! We've already gathered quite a few. But it will never be enough haha. There are so many series nowadays. It's hard to pick one to watch. And we're always here to help! Just check out the overview of our series tips and you'll definitely find something you'll like! Today we are discussing: Luther.

It was actually Sig's idea to start watching Luther. He had heard some good things about the series. At first I was hesitant; I don't always like police series. It's hard to find the right one. I do like police series. But I usually watch series like CSI once in a while, instead of actually following each episode. But there are some police series I really love. Earlier on, I already discussed Southland with you. Love that one! And if you want to classify the Wire as a police series, I loved that series as well.

Luther is a crime/ drama series about detective chief inspector John Luther. For John, his job is always number one. He's very dedicated. He's brilliant and always has genius ways to find criminals. But he also finds himself in difficult situations. He isn't exactly the paragon of a decent detective. He means well, but he often crosses the line. He's obsessive and violent sometimes. Of course this gets him into trouble more often than he would like.

How about the actors?

Idris. Elba. Do I need to say more? I'm a big fan. Especially after watching Luther. I already knew him as Russel 'Stringer' Bell in The Wire. Also a great role! But he's known for way more. Just to name a few: Dangerfield, Ultraviolet, Insiders, Family Affairs and many more.

I was also happy to see Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan in the series. Ruth is a great actress as well. Her role as Alice isn't an easy part, but it's so amazing! I also know Ruth from The Affair. But you also might have seen her in The Lone Ranger, The Prisoner or  Suburban Shootout.

Another familiar face was John's ex wife, Zoe. It took me a while actually to find out I knew her. But then it hit me: She's Indira Varma and plays Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones. Her new boyfriend, Mark North, is played by Paul McGann. Paul is also known for Doctor Who, Alien 3 and Queen of the Damned.

Who will like this?

If you like Iris Elba, watch this series! If you like police series with brilliant twists, watch Luther! You have to be interested in a crime/ drama series. Unfortunately the seasons don't have a lot of episodes. But every episode is great. Luther is brilliant and I love the twists and turns in this series. You never know what's going to happen. And there's always a strange/ weird/ surprising crime that needs solving. It's nice to think about who might have done it, or how to fix it. But John Luther is always one step ahead. Just sit back, relax and let him surprise you!

How many seasons?

There were 4 seasons.

My opinion

I love it! I really, really love it. I definitely put Luther in the top of series I've watched. Idris Elba is a genius. He plays Luther so well. It's incredible. Ruth plays the psychopath Alice and she's awesome as well. I love the scenes they have together.

Besides that, I love how this series keeps surprising me. It's never boring or predictable. I can never guess how he will solve the case. Or get himself out of trouble. Just watch it. And you'll know what I mean!

I'm so annoyed as Luther is available on here without a sky subscription. It need to be on Netflix or Amazon.

Great to learn about Luther. I really like the wise character who outsmarts everyone to solve a case type of series. This is one on my list.

Luther has been on my watch list for like forever. I love Idris Elba and I know I will love the series. I just don't have the time to start a new series, unfortunately.

I swear!!! What you said is legit! There's so many series nowadays that you can't really watch them all (unless you have unlimited time) I simply adore police series with amazing twists. I really think that creators/writers of these types of series are amazingly witty and creative. I'll be sure to consider luther on my next series hunt. :)
