How 2 women met a man (Meeting Tom Wlaschiha)

Tom Wlaschiha at FACTS 2016

At FACTS spring edition 2016, two women met a man. Two women love to watch Game of Thrones. In Game of Thrones, a man plays a remarkable role. So, when FACTS convention announced a man as a guest, two women were pleased to hear this.

At FACTS convention two women rushed to the guests, to see a man. A man was already sitting there,  smiling and signing autographs for fans. So, two women decided to go for a photo op with a man!

Tom Wlaschiha at FACTS Convention

That is how it started! Tom Wlaschiha was a guest at FACTS Convention. As you may already know, he's well known for his role as Jaqen H'Ghar in Game of Thrones. In the last season, his role grew and the character has become very important. And I love this storyline. It's mysterious and exciting. Yes after meeting Ian Beattie and Eugene Simon at Dutch Comic Con we were excited to meet yet another actor from this great show. Arya is one of my favorite characters in the show and Jaqen and Arya have got many scenes together. So I was particularly interested in what Tom had to say. Meeting Tom was absolutely great! We started off with the photo op: All went smoothly. Except for the pronouncement of his name while buying the photo op ticket. Carola did good but I just mumbled something like Tom Wlawla lol. Photo ops go very quickly, but it was nice to meet him this way. We shook his hand, the photographer took the picture and we went to pick up our photo.

Tom Wlaschiha in Belgium

Later that afternoon, I went to see Tom's Q&A. Liv wasn't there because she had her photo op with Richard Dean Anderson. Yes, that was a shame, but I knew I had another chance on Sunday. Also, McGyver is my (childhood)hero so I was very excited to go to this photo op. Little did I know that I would be standing in line throughout the whole Q&A of Tom Wlaschiha and half of Louise Brealy's. So, I was on my own. He talked about how he got involved in Game of Thrones and what it's like to play in the series. He told that, at first, he thought it was a pretty weird role: A man who talks about himself in the third person. And he had never heard of Game of Thrones before. Luckily, the producers really liked Tom's tape! Ramsey and Joffrey are his favorite characters in Game of Thrones because they are really interesting. And also really annoying, but hey I get him. They play their roles really good. Apparently offscreen they are the nicest guys. So playing a bad guy, like they do is a pretty fine piece of acting.

Getting an autograph from Tom Wlaschiha

I really liked the Q&A, and Tom Wlaschiha seemed an awesome guy. So, I started to think about maybe getting an autograph too. Liv and I both decided to do this, so on Sunday, we sprinted to his table full of good spirits But: no Tom. We went away for a moment and returned later. And there he was. Of course, by then, my courage was nowhere to be found. But, we had a tight schedule and it was now or never.  So we walked to his table. I wasn't prepared enough, my mind was going crazy again: SAY something!! So I just mumbled a bit that I loved the show. He smiled and said, yeah me too :). (Haha). I was very courageous in saying we're gonna do this but when standing at the table my mind went blank, but luckily Tom started talking and the ice was broken...sort of.

He asked for our names, to write along with the autograph. When I said my name I quite surprised that he immediately could spell and pronounce it right. Though I knew he's German,  I was still kind of surprised by how he pronounced it. Love it. Liv talked to me in Dutch, saying that it's probably easier for him because he speaks German. He look at us, not understanding what we were talking about, so we explained. When I pronounced my name, the assistant (sitting next to Tom Wlaschiha) thought my name was Leffe (after the Belgian Beer lol). I am used to this because I always have to say my name twice, but Tom instantly looked at the guy and said " Liv! Like Liv Ullmann!" I was surprised about the fact he knew this, because I'm actually named after Liv Ullmann but no one seems to know her. ( Liv Ullman is a Norwegian actress, writer and director and is internationally known. She was an icon of the seventies). I thought it was great that I didn't have to explain this to Tom. I felt like I could have said more, but not much would come out. Though I did talk a bit about how busy it was and how many people he must have seen over the days. Oh, and he remembered us from the day before! That's so awesome. Yeah I loved that. Kudos Tom!

Tom Wlaschiha at FACTS

We also went to the Q&A again on Sunday. This time, together. At this Q&A, Tom Wlaschiha told that this was only his third convention to attend. Well, he's doing awesome! He was very much at ease, kind to everyone. When he was asked who should be on the Iron Throne his answer was short: Jaqen H'Ghar. (Lol). He even talked like "A Man" at some point. He also talked about how all of his scenes are with Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and how they tried to beat each other's scores in 2048(a mobile math game) when they had time to kill between scenes. He won, by the way, haha. This Q&A was the perfect ending to a perfect second day at FACTS. Even when he walked from the Q&A room to the guest's room again, he would talk to fans and answer questions. Being very patient and making lots of people happy. We would love to see Tom again at a convention! Indeed it was lovely to meet him. And Tom if you ever read this: Vielen Dank für Ihre freundlichkeit!

Tschüss!!!

We know Tom; I mean, my boyfriend does haha. But he introduced him to me in the last convention that we went to (and that my boyfriend was part of) and so I had the chance to hang out with them. So of course I was shy, but Tom is super chill, and awesome to be around. We even took pics, most of them are on my personal FB but you can check a few on our instagram too (@louderthansilver) . And we also met Jerome Flynn, who I was so impressed with, because he is really, really nice!
    I love Game of Thrones.

My girlfriend just commented above Haha. I met Tom the first time in my hometown as I was working for the convention he has been invited for. I was intimidated at first, but he's so kind and so easy. I have to be honest that even though I had to be professionnal, I couldn't help myself being a groupie Haha. But we shared two dinners night with him and some comics drawers. Then Months later the convention happened in an other city, I was still working for them and we spent one week in this city on holiday with Nya even though I was working for the convention. But Tom was there again, as long as the storyboarder (who was previously there) and we had the chance to spend a nice night out all together having drinks and fun, and on the next day a chilly lunch on the beach before they catch their flight. Nya was cutely shy haha, but for me I was now "used" even though was the second time only. He's just such a normal person (And I have trouble seing Jaqen in him anyway Haha). But we met Jerome Flynn as well, where I was more intimidated and he is actually looking like Bronn in real life, but he's such a kind, funny and nice guy as well. So simple, close to nature and "simple living".
Btw, about your fact about Livv, Tom is so cultivated and he knows so many stuff about anything, it's always a pleasure talking with him. I'm not working for this convention anymore but I hope I'll meet him again, as well as Jerome on others convention Haha :)

Great that you met him a few times! I hope to one day meet Jerome Flynn as well.
I've already met Ian Beattie (Ser Meryn Trant) and Eugene Simon (Lancel Lannister). Two great guys as well. Very kind.
Which convention was it, that you were working for?
