Movies we watched in October

New month, new movies. As many of you might know, we went to Los Angeles in October. This meant a lot of movie related activities. And what I first wrote in this intro was that because of that I didn't watch a lot of movies. Then I started this writing this article. And I realized: I've seen a lot of movies in October! So I take it back. October was great film month :).

Carola

Beast

Year: 2017

Genre: Crime/ Drama

IMDB score: 6,8

My score: 6

Remark: This was my first movie in the plane to Los Angeles! I was well prepared. Days before flying I already checked the airline's website and made a sort list of movies I wanted to see. I wrote it all down and added length & Imdb score. That way, I could easily make my choices in the plane. The first one picked of the list was Beast. Beast is about a woman who lives in an isolated community. She meets a man and falls in love. Of course, her family disapproves. But she's deeply in love. But what will she do when he gets arrested for murder?

Aladdin

Year: 2019

Genre: Adventure/ Family

IMDB score: 7,1

My score: 7

Remark: My second movie on the plane! Usually this isn't the type of movie that I watch quickly. I'm not really into Disney movies. But since I was on a plane and I know I used to like Aladdin I decided to watch. Okay. I might also have been curious to see Will Smith as a genie...

And I thought the movie was quite nice! I enjoyed watching it. It had been so long since I had seen Aladdin (Of course it was the first time to see this version). And it was nice!

Shazam

Year: 2019

Genre: Action/ Adventure

IMDB score: 7,1

My score: 7

Remark: The third and last movie of the trip to Los Angeles! And this one as well is not typically me. But since Liv and I had seen Zachary Levi at CCXP Cologne this year, I really wanted to see Shazam. And I enjoyed watching Shazam!  It was really funny and I'm glad I gave it a try.

Carrie

Year: 1976

Genre: Horror

IMDB score: 7,4

My score: 9

Remark: We watched Carrie again while we in Los Angeles. Cool, right? And it's getting better. We watched it in the Montalbán theatre on the rooftop. It really was an amazing experience. (Even though we had to rush so much to get there in time because we went to the premiere of Zombieland: Double Tap to spot the actors!

Zombieland: Double Tap

Year: 2019

Genre: Horror/ Comedy

IMDB score: 7,2

My score: 8

Remark: This movies gets an 8 from me, just because it had such a special role during our trip in Los Angeles. We went to the movie premiere to see the stars, there was a Zombieland panel at Comic Con Los Angeles  and we watched the movie thanks to Los Angeles Comic Con in the cinema during our stay in Los Angeles. And the movie even was introduced to us by some of the cast members. How awesome is that?

The Clovehitch killer

Year: 2018

Genre: Crime/ Drama

IMDB score: 6,5

My score: 7

Remark: Aaaaand like that our holiday was over and we were back on a plane! The plane to Amsterdam. I decided to start this flight with the movie Clovehitch Killer. In this movie, a teenage boy is intrigued by a couple killings in his neighborhood. While investigating, he begins to suspect that his father has something to do with it.

A Quiet Place

Year: 2018

Genre: Drama/ Horror

IMDB score: 7,5

My score: 7

Remark: Second plane movie! A movie that's starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Great cast! In A Quiet Place, their family is forced to live in silence. They're hiding from monster with super sensitive hearing. Any noise might lead to being discovered..

A Star is Born

Year: 2018

Genre: Drama/ Romance

IMDB score: 7,7

My score: 6,5

Remark: And yes there was time for another plane movie! This time I chose to watch A Star Is Born. I have this movie coming by quite often (On Instagram, on TV, the trailer in the cinema etc etc) so I was curious. I didn't exactly know what the plot was about. I figures about a a woman who could sing very well and was a star on the rise. Well, there was a bit more too it than that. I liked the movie, it's not the happiest story. Even though I thought it was good, for it wasn't excellent. The movie was a bit slow at times and yeah, it was just all right for me.

Trick R Treat

Year: 2007

Genre: Horror/ Comedy

IMDB score: 6,8

My score: 7

Remark: This was one of DVDs I bought in Los Angeles. I bought it in a store in Santa Monica. I hadn't seen the movie before and I was curious. After a few days of being home again I decided to watch the DVD. The movie shows 5 stories that all take place during Halloween. I thought it was a nice movie.

Joker

Year: 2019

Genre: Crime/ Drama

IMDB score: 8,8

My score: 9

Remark: I really couldn't wait to see Joker! It was out in cinemas right before our holiday. But thn I didn't go, hoping we would see the movie in LA. We didn't though (Lack of time) and at home I really didn't want to wait too long. And I'm glad I went to the cinema. I thought Joker was amazing!

3 From Hell

Year: 2019

Genre: Horror

IMDB score: 5,7

My score: 8

Remark: I was already obsessed with this movie before going to Los Angeles. After making House of 100 Corpses, followed by the Devil's Rejects there's now 3 From Hell! I had seen so many announcements by Rob Zombie abut this movie, I was so excited to get the DVD. I knew it would come out on DVD during our stay in LA, so I would be able to buy it there. And I did. I really enjoyed watching 3 from Hell at home. I loved the movie. And above all, it was great to see Sid Haig in the movie, even though his role is quite small.

Happy Birthday to Me

Year: 1981

Genre: Horror/ Mystery

IMDB score: 6,1

My score: 7

Remark: Time for an 80s horror movie! I love them. Happy Birthday to me is an 80s horror movie about Virginia and her group of friends. They all start to missing, one by one. It's all happening years after a horrible event at  her birthday as a child.

Forrest Gump

Year: 1994

Genre: Drama/ Romance

IMDB score: 8,8

My score: 9

Remark: Also Forrest Gump played a big role during our trip to Los Angeles. We saw "Forrest" in Madame Tussauds and we had lunch at Bubba Gump! There we also sat on a Forrest Gump bench and we bought some great shirts and caps! When I was at home, I just really wanted to watch the movie again!

E.T.

Year: 1982

Genre: Family/ Sci-Fi

IMDB score: 7,8

My score: 8

Remark: E.T. was a bit preparation for Weekend of Hell. At WOH, Dee Wallace, would be one of the guests. In E.T. she plays the mother. So I decided to watch E.T. again!

Dollman

Year: 1991

Genre: Horror/ Action

IMDB score: 5,4

My score: 6

Remark: This movie reminded me (before seeing it) of demonic Toys. I expected it to be something like that, but it wasn't. It's about a traveler from outer space of 12 inches who lands on earth. So on earth, he is doll sized. He has to fight the enemy forces that have landed on earth as well. It's a horror/ action movie but also a bit funny. I liked watching it.

Dollman vs Demonic Toys

Year: 1993

Genre: Fantasy/ Action

IMDB score: 4,4

My score: 6

Remark: So... I wasn't the only one apparently who had to think of Demonic Toys by seeing the cover of Dollman. Here, 'the Dollman' faces the demonic toys!

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Year: 1984

Genre: Horror

IMDB score: 7,5

My score: 8

Remark: I rewatched this classic on Halloween in the cinema. Loved it!

Hellboy

Ron Perlman during the Hellboy Panel at Comic Con Los Angeles 2019

Year: 2004

Genre: Action/Adventure

IMDB score: 6,8

My score: 7,5

Remark: I rewatched "Hellboy" before we went to Los Angeles. Ron Perlman and Doug Jones were announced as guests by Comic Con Los Angeles. We were finally going to meet Mr. Perlman, so that was the perfect excuse to rewatch it.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Year: 2019

Genre: Action/Adventure

IMDB score: 7,6

My score: 8

Remark: As a Marvel fan, I am ashamed to say I missed this one in the cinema...(Yes...I know...shame on me). You can imagine how happy I was to be able to watch it on the plane to Los Angeles. I loved it! Especially because Jake Gyllenhaal (one of my favorite actors) is also in it.

Green Book

Year: 2018

Genre: Biography/Drama

My score: 8,5

Remark: Second movie on the plane to LA and definitely a must watch! Mortensen and Ali are excellent together. The story is compelling and gives you something to think about.

Alita: Battle Angel

Year: 2019

Genre: Action/SciFi

IMDB score: 7,4

My score: 7,2

Remark: Third plane movie. I liked it!

Game Night

Year: 2018

Genre: Action/Comedy

Remark: I wanted my last movie on the plane to LA, to be short and not to serious. Well Game Night was just what I needed.

Carrie

Year: 1976

Genre: Horror

IMDB score: 7,4

My score: 8,5

Remark: As Carola already mentioned: we watched this one on the rooftop of the Montálban Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It was a great end to a very hectic day in Los Angeles. I have already watched it numerous times, but I still like it. A true horror classic!

Zombieland: Double Tap

My score: 8,5

Remark: Just like Carola said. This movie will always have a special place for me. I already loved the first part and I love this one. The picture was taken at the special Comic Con Los Angeles avant-

premiere of the movie. It was awesome!

Mid90s

Year: 2018

Genre: Comedy/Drama

IMDB score: 7,4

My score: 7,5

Remark: First of the movies on the plane back to The Netherlands was Mid90s. It follows the live of a 13-year-old boy that grows up in the 90's LA skate culture. I had never heard of it before, but it was pretty good!

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

Year: 2019

My score: 8

Remark: Second plane movie and with John Wick, you can't go wrong.

A Star is Born

Year: 2018

Genre: Drama/Music

IMDB score: 7,7

My score: 8,5

Remark: Oh my...maybe this wasn't the best movie to watch in aplane full of people. Usually I don't cry during movies, but for this one I had to wipe of a few tears. I love the chemistry between Gaga and Cooper!

Critters

Year: 1986

Genre: Comedy/Horror

IMDB score: 6,1

My score: 6,5

My score: 10

Remark: Oh...my...God! One of the best movies ever made! Phoenix really should get the Academy Award for this amazing performance. Just wow!
