Looking Forward to Manchester Comic Con 2022 - Part 2

Yes! We are going to Comic Con Manchester later this month (July 30 &31). The event will take place in Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester and it will be organised by Monopoly Events. We have never been to Comic Con Manchester, but in the past we did attend two other Monopoly Events. In 2018, we attended For the Love of Horror Manchester and in 2020 we attended Comic Con Liverpool. We had an amazing time at both of these events and that's why we can't wait to get over to Manchester! In our first article we already talked about the "Teen Wolf" part of the amazing  guest list for the event. Today we are following this up with another article about the movie and TV guests of Comic Con Manchester!

Superman & Lois

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No it's Superman!

Yes that's right! Superman is coming to Manchester and he is bringing his family. In October 2021, the CW announced "Superman & Lois", a new TV show set in the DC Extended Universe. The show was officially ordered by the CW in January 2020 and served as a spin off series from "Supergirl". Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch played the role of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane in "Supergirl" and they were signed to reprise their roles in this new series. Not long after that Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin were cast as Jonathan and Jordan Kent, the two teenage sons of Clark and Lois. And with that we have our Kent family!

So what's the show about?

In "Superman & Lois", we see Clark Kent losing his job at The Daily Planet. When Clark's mother dies, he and Lois and their teenage twin sons return to Smallville (where Clark grew up) to attend the funeral. When they find out that Morgan Edge has evil plans with Smallville, the Kent family decides to move back to Smallville and into the Kent family house...

So let's talk about the 4 "Superman & Lois" guests that will be making their way to Comic Con Manchester!

Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent)

In our first article about the guests of Comic Con Manchester we already talked about the "Teen Wolf" guests for the con. One of these guests is Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Derek Hale in "Teen Wolf". But Tyler Hoechlin is also known for his current role as Clark Kent/Superman/Kal-El in the CW's "Superman & Lois". If you want to know more about Tyler and his early career (in acting and baseball) you can read all about it in part one

Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch (Lois Lane)

Elizabeth Andrea 'Bitsie' Tulloch was born on January 19, 1981 in San Diego, California (U.S.). Since her father (Andrew) is an international banker (Latin American banking), Elizabeth grew up in Spain, Uruguay and Argentina.

Fun Fact: The name Bitsie is not a contraction from her given name Elizabeth, but an homage to her grandfather, who was a WWII bomber pilot. Bitsie was actually his nickname. Up until 2017, Elizabeth was also credited as Bitsie Tulloch, but since then she also goes by her given name Elizabeth.

Back to Elizabeth's early life. Upon returning to the US, Elizabeth went to middle school in Bedford, New York. When she was a little girl, Elizabeth wanted to become a civil engineer. She would come home from school and gather some toothpicks to build bridges and to see how much weight they could bear. After middle school, Elizabeth went to high school (also in Bedford) and she became a bit obsessed by literature and the fine arts. Eventually she would major in literature and fine arts at Harvard University.

Her plan was to go to England and get her Master in Fine Arts, but things went different. Elizabeth needed a break from studying and she decided to take a year off and went to Los Angeles. At one point she went to an acting class with a friend and that is when she fell in love with acting. Well the first few years of her career, Elizabeth did what she was used to and she took the academic approach. She studied acting pretty intensely for a few years, before she started auditioning for small roles. In 2006, she gained critical acclaim for her role as Sally in Sam Forman's play "Quarterlife". In 2007, Elizabeth played the role of Alex in the web series "Lonelygirl15" and the starring role of Dylan Krieger in the drama series "Quarterlife". Unfortunately "Quarterlife" got cancelled. In 2008, Elizabeth played opposite Samuel L. Jackson in the movie "Lakeview Terrace" (as Nadine), she played opposite Ron Perlman and Daniel Gillies in "Uncross the Stars" (as Corrine) and she also played a small role as Whitney in "House M.D.". In 2011, Elizabeth gets her big break with two amazing roles. First of all, Elizabeth bags a small role (as Nora) in the award winning movie "The Artist". Also, Elizabeth gets a starring role as Julliette Silverton/Eve in the TV show "Grimm". The show becomes a succes and eventually runs for 6 seasons (2011-2017). Not long after the end of "Grimm", Elizabeth rolls into the DC Extended Universe, when she gets the role of Lois Lane in some of the Arrowverse episodes (2018-2020). In 2021, Superman and Lois Lane get their own TV show within the DC universe and Elizabeth gets the role of Lois Lane in "Superman & Lois".

Jordan Elsass (Jonathan Kent)

It was Jordan's mother that inspired him to try out acting and he auditioned for a play in the local theatre in Georgetown...Even as a child, Jordan was quite the perfectionist and he didn't know that it was ok to mess up ( he watched shows like American Idol, where people used to be ridiculed when they messed up). He went in to audition and did his monologue. Afterwards he was in tears, because he was certain he blew it ... but he didn't blow it and he got his first role in the ensemble cast of "Annie Get Your Gun". He played in multiple theater shows after that and when he was 12 years old, an agent came to one of his plays. After the show the agent signed him and his acting career took off. Soon Jordan was being cast in commercials and other projects, like University of Texas student films.

In 2014, Jordan becomes a lead cast member and sketch writer for the web series "Keepin' It Weird TV", a sketch comedy series by youth poking fun at the adult world. Over the years, Jordan gets roles in multiple (short) movies and series, like: "Macabre" (2016, as Peter Cole), "I Heart My School" (2016, as Eric), "Discreet" (2017, as Zach), "People with issues" (2018, as Kyle) and "Sister Aimee" (2019, as Nelson Lorris). In 2020 he bags the role of Trip in the Hulu drama series "Little Fires Everywhere", based on the bestselling 2017 book by Celeste Ng. In 2021 he plays the role of Tyler Young in "Panic" and he also gets the role of Jonathan Kent in the Arrowverse TV show "Superman & Lois". In just a few years time Jordan Elsass has become one of the most promising young new actors on the block and we sure haven't seen the last of him yet.

Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent)

Alexander Garfin was born in Manhattan, New York (U.S.) on September 23, 2003. He's the youngest son of Jeffery Garfin (an attorney) and Karen Carnaroli Garfin ( a journalist and TV producer). He has an older brother named Max (also an actor). He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art. The school is known to bring forth very talented entertainers (like Jennifer Aniston). Alex has not been acting that long but one of his first acting jobs was a guest role in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". He even played two different characters in different seasons. In 2009, Alex takes on the role of Anthony Maxwell and in 2011 he plays Luke Thomas. In 2015, Alex lands the voice acting role of Linus in "The Peanuts Movie", followed by another voice role (of Stripes) in "Whisker Haven Tales With The Palace Pets".In 2020 he gets a guest role in the medical drama "New Amsterdam" (as Elio). One day Alex saw a flyer for the casting call of "Superman & Lois" at the bulletin board at his High School. He took a chance and the rest is history... Alex read for a different part, but eventually landed the role of Jordan Kent. Since, Alex has always been a fan of "Superman" this must feel like a dream job!
