Series talk: Girlboss

It's time for another series talk! Let's talk about Girlboss. I've watched it recently.Even though I knew it had been canceled after just one season. Sophia is the main protagonist in Girlboss. She has a difficult relationship with her father and doesn't know exactly what she wants from life. She can't keep a job and takes nothing seriously. But she does have a passion for vintage fashion. One night she buys a cheap vintage jacket and discovers how much many she can earn by selling it on Ebay. And that's the moment where she realizes what she wants: A career in vintage fashion. Starting her own Ebay company.

My opinion

I've read a lot of different opinions about Girlboss. So I kind of knew what to expect/ what the points of discussing were when I started watching the show. I know many people don't like it because Sophia is so selfish. She's not particularly likable. I can see that. But still, I really loved watching Girlboss. It's refreshing how it doesn't comply to what we all expect. I like it that Sophia isn't perfect. And to see her have doubts, anger and go all over the place. Yes she's selfish. And a lot of times I didn't like her. But still, I loved the series. Just see how she copes with life. And sees the world differently than a lot of other people. Her best friend is awesome. I loved them as a duo. It was so much fun to watch. And they're so different. What I didn't like [STOP reading if you don't want any spoilers]: I didn't like her boyfriend. He irritates me. And I feel like he can't keep up with her. And I really didn't like at all how it ended between them. Not just what happened, but I just felt like it was all wrong in this story.

The actors

As for the actors, I was only familiar with Sophia's dad Jay, played by Dean Norris. I know Dean Norris for playing Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad. I didn't know any of the other actors. I have to say that I think Britt Robertson (Sophia) and Ellie Reed (Annie) are awesome! I love their acting and it's great how they portray their characters. They play together very well. I loved seeing them as best friends on the show. Alphonso McAuley as Dax was great. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm not too impressed by Johnny Simmons who plays Shane. I'm not if it's him or the character. Or both. Well, it's at least the character he plays. Well, it just didn't feel right for me. And I didn't find it very convincing.

I have the same feelings as you. I have watched GirlBoss recently and it didn't convince me. I know it is based on a real story (and you should have seen my surprise when I was getting my nails done at the salon and an add to Nasty Gal came up on the tv) but she is really selfish. I don't know if she is like that in real life or if the series has exaggerated, but what she did to her best friend... not cool. I sort of liked her boyfriend, well, until he did what he did. But still, she approached the entire relationship the wrong way from the beginning, when all she was looking for was a place to spend the night.

This is a well written review. I haven't seen this series, but I like that you gave your opinions and good description of main characters.

I haven't seen the series yet, and it isn't even on my list, but it seems cool. I love unusual and realistic series with unexpected twists. Anyways, I skipped the part with your warning about the spoilers. I don't want to know the details, I might watch it sometimes.
