My new addiction (Series Tip of the week)

I admit it: I have a new addiction. And while I'm still watching (I'm watching season 2 right now) I'll already share it with you as a series tip. Undoubtedly some of you will have already much more than me. What series am I talking about? The Vampire Diaries! A few weeks ago I was at Arccon (Orginised by KLZ Events). KLZ Events also organises Bloogy Night Con. At Arccon many people spoke about this. Since I didn't watch the Vampire Diaries, Bloody Night Con didn't say me that much. But once I was home I decided to ry it out. Just watch some episodes to see if I'd like it. And I LOVE it. At first I thought it would be too 'high school' for me. But was addicted from the moment I started to watch.

The Vampire Diares is all about vampires! It all starts with Elena. Then Stefan and Damon Salvatore come live in Mystic Falls. She falls in love with Stefan. But both Stefan an Damian are vampires.. That's where the trouble starts!

Paul Wesley at Bloody Night Con Europe 2017

How about the actors?

The main roles are for Nina Dobrev (Elena), Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Ian Somerhalder (Damon). I knew none of the before watching the Vampire Diaries. But I think they're great and love their acting in this series. I was suprised to see Lauren Cohan in season 2. I know her as Maggie in the Walking Dead, but she was amazing as Rose in this series. Loved to see her again. At Arccoon I already heard that Rick Cosnett also plays in the Vampire Diaries. I'm not there yet, so I haven't seen him in TVD yet. But I am looking forward to it!

I think all the characters in the Vampire Diaries are very likable. The good and the bad ones. I love them all and really belive that this series has an incredible cast. A few of my favourites are: Mia Kirshner (Isobel), Caindice King (Caroline), Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) and Daniel Gillies (Elijah).

Who will like this?

The Vampire Diaries is a drama/ fantasy/ horror series. If you like mix of this all: You'll be fine! You have to like a bit of romance. yeah, it's a lot about Elena and Stefan. It's not the only thing (much more is going on). But: Love is a big part of this series. You have to be up for that. I love the fantasy and horror parts! Though I don't think it's really that much horror. Ok, there is some blood. But I've seen worse :). So if you're not a true horror fan, it's still safe to watch if you like the drama/ fantasy part. Watch this if you're into vampires and werewolfs. But don't expect a love story like Twilight: There more in this series than just that. (I'm also a big Twilight fan, so I think I'm allowed to say that ;) ).

How many seasons?

Season 8 premiere is set for Friday, October 21, 2016.

My opinion

I'm addicted from the moment I saw the first episode. Every spare minute I'm watching now!  It isn't easy to explain: Somehow you have this feeling with a series or not. I've watched a few that are ok, but I wasn't addicted. In the Vapire Diaries I have found a good one :). Most important factors in this for me is:

- The characters: The writers have created awesome characters. I got attached quickly and always want to know how they're doing. I keep coming back to know more.

- The actors: You can have the best characters of the world, but if the actor doesn't transfer this, you're done. But there are really amazing actors in this series. WHich makes it so much fun to watch!

- The story: It doesn't give me this standard 'high school' feeling. Luckily enough. Nothing against high school series/ movies. But I just didn't feel like watching one at the moment. The story develops very well. A lot if happening, but (up untill now) not too much or too fast. The pace is quite high, but for me in a nice way. I like it.

-  The dialogs: Well developed, clear, interesting.

Despite the fact that's girly and cheesy, I watched Vamire Diaries until the last season. I'm just a bit late in the latest episodes I have to admit. In parallel I also watched The Originals that is a show coming from the Original Vampires in Vampire Diaries. Its a little bit like how The Flash had its own series after Arrow. But anyway, I was really skeptical at first with TVD. The first episode is honestly horrible. It just looks like Twilight. But I was so bored and I didn't have anything else to watch that I kept going. And season after season it started to get better. So yeah there is a lot of romance and sometimes it's a bit too much, but I mostly like how the characters changes, who dies and what happens from that. And there is really awesome cliffhangers. I hope you'll keep enjoying the show and when you see the crossover with the original vampires you can start watching the series The Originals that is less romance than TVD and feels more adult than teenagers

I have to admit I was never able to get into vampire diaries. I watched the first episode then stopped it. Then later in time I gave it another try and watched a couple more. But then understood it was not for me. Even though surprisingly enough my boyfriend seems to like it haha.

I have heard of Vampire Diaries a lot from my friends but I never really dared watch it because I'm scaredy cat. I love watching shows like NCIS, CSI, Hawaii Five-O, Grey's Anatomy, and Dr. House instead. :)

I've heard good reviews about the Vampire Diaries. But personally I'm not the series kind of watcher! It's because I don't like sitting around for a long time. But then, good stories should be passed around. I'm glad VD surpassed the vampire craze from Twilight

I actually tried watching this but I didn't feel like it was my thing. If you like edgy drama with sime romance and fierceness, start watching Scandal. It's the best show!

OMGHAAAD, I remember when i first got into TVD, by season 5 I was sick and tired of it. I did get withdrawal symptoms for after for a while, so it is safe to say i ts addictive. I've just finished having a binge on Friday Night Lights! Was obsessed, and I dont even know why!

I'm not really into vampires series. My friends really like this one though, I always hear about it from them.
I think that the only fantasy series I ever watched is 'The game of thrones', and that is way to much of a fantasy for me already. :)
Maybe one day I'll try this one. Keep enjoying it.

I watched two seasons of Vampire Diaries and it did nothing for me. I didn't find it as good as the spinoff, The Originals. But the show has so many fans I wonder if I should give it a second chance. I like Stefan better than his goodlooking brother though, so maybe it's one of the reasons I don't want to see the seasons where Elena and Damon got together lol.

I remember a friend who is an avid fan of this series. She keeps on telling me to watch it and I'll surely love it. I will try to look for it most probably during our sem-break!

I have a lot of fave series. I can't name them all but the genres that I watch are: mystery, fantasy, thriller, drama and crime. :D I'd love to see GoT / TBBT / HTGAWM on your list!
